What is the Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC)?

The Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) at Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital (DSFH) aims to connect patients and families with healthcare team members to guide improvements in patient and family experiences. PFAC ensures that patients' voices are considered in service improvement and the delivery of high-quality care. Through their unique perspectives, patients and families provide input on care issues, ensuring that future experiences are smoother.

About PFAC

Established in 2020, PFAC started in 2023, growing to 18 members in 2023. It meets quarterly, averaging 6-5 meetings per year, under the leadership of the Patient Experience Director.

PFAC Objectives

  • Recruit a diverse group of patients to gather a broad range of perspectives.
  • Ensure the patient voice is authentic and clearly represented.
  • Show appreciation for the time and efforts of patient and family volunteers.
  • Leverage patient and caregiver experiences to improve care for all patients.
  • Partner with DSFH leadership to develop patient-centered solutions.
  • Participate in staff education to share patient perspectives.
  • Improve communication, service recovery, and patient navigation tools.
  • Provide input on policies, infrastructure, and physical space.

Council Members

  • Patients and Family Members: Core contributors who provide firsthand insights into hospital services.
  • Healthcare Providers: Including doctors, nurses, and managers who work to implement recommendations.
  • Hospital Management: Members responsible for final decision-making and policy implementation.

Role of the Council

  • The main role is to co-design and co-create initiatives and projects that enhance the patient experience, ensuring that services are patient-centered and continuously improved based on feedback & best practices
  • Provide Feedback: PFAC acts as a bridge between patients and management, sharing personal experiences and proposing improvements.
  • Review Policies and Services: Ensures that current practices align with patient needs.
  • Improve Patient Experience: Enhances healthcare services based on patient suggestions.
