Brief Profile

Dr. Saud Al-Omar is a consultant pediatrician as a primary specialty, and specializes in adolescent medicine.

Dr. Saud Al-Omar obtained the Saudi Pediatrics board and the Arab Board, then he obtained the Canadian Fellowship in the specialty of adolescent medicine from the University of British Columbia. He is considered the first Saudi male doctor in this rare specialty.

Dr. Saud initiated the 1st adolescent medicine clinic in a number of government hospitals, and also established adolescent Eating Disorder(ED) clinics as 1st ED clinics in the Kingdom.

He participated in many international and local conferences as a keynote speaker and is considered one of the most famous adolescent doctors in the region

He also presented many lectures and workshops to raise awareness of common teenage problems and how to deal with this group.

He has great efforts in raising awareness through the social media platform and through many famous television channels and programs

He held many administrative and academic positions and made great efforts in medical training and cooperated with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties

He also cooperates with many government agencies in this field

Dr. Saud currently is chairperson of many committees and held membership in a number of committees and associations.

Scope of service of Adolescent and youth Medicine

All general paediatric cases

For adolescent medicine:

1. Suspected eating disorders(Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa) with any of the following

  • Weight below 85 % ideal body weight
  • Unexplained weight loss with Electrolyte disturbance and or bradycardia or hypotension
  • Absence of menses at least for three months
  • Binging behavior(episodes of uncontrollable eating excessive amount of food in short duration),
  • Purging behavior (self-induced vomiting, misuse of laxatives, diuretics, or enemas) to control weight or shape
  • Excessive thoughts around food
  • Unhappy about body shape.
  • Acute food refusal

• Chronic illness with medication non-adherence.

• Patient with Chronic illness who has Unexplained frequent Emergency room visits either related to disease exacerbation or complications(though he/she is on a good treatment regimen)

• Patient with Chronic illness complicated by psychosocial disorders (stress and anxiety, depression, isolation, poor school/college performance, etc…..)

• Those with chronic pain syndrome (any pain that persists longer than the reasonably expected healing time for the involved tissues).

• Those with suspected abuse (Physical or sexual)

• Supporting diagnosis and management of uncomplicated depression and anxiety

• Suspected psychosomatic disorders and Chronic unexplained Somatic Complain (after a thorough investigation with no definitive diagnosis):

  • Abdominal pain
  • Back pain
  • Diffuse pain
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Seizure or pseudo seizure
  • Paralysis
  • Loss of neurological function

• Deterioration of academic performance with no clear reason.

• Boys with gynecomastia

• Acne with psychological complications

• Concerns about growth and development and puberty- related issues

In addition to helping teens/youth with medical concerns, we spend part of each visit to our clinic discussing social and emotional issues that may affect the patient's well-being. Topics often discussed at visits are:

• Supporting strength and resilience 


• School and job preparation and achievement 


• Motivational interviewing those who are smoking or using any other 
substance who wants to quit 


• Coping with stress

• Biofeedback (mindfulness and relaxation therapy) will be offered for some cases.

• Building independence 


• Successful transition to adulthood 


• Concerns about growth and development 


• Smoking and Substance abuse

• Teenagers with risky behaviors

• Family relationships, dynamics and conflicts

• General health counselling and education
